Spring 2011

Carolina Herrera – All hail the queen!

This was the best collection from Carolina…in my memory, ever!  Park Avenue in every way, but (dare I say it) it was a bit quirky…Korean fisherman hats, and avant-garde splashes of neon color on one eye and then the coupe de gras:  two swipes of ‘Asian Red with Gold-Flash’ (Scarlet Shimmer) on a perfectly shaped, […]

Monique Lhuillier – romantic, feminine and flawless!

Monique has been a friend and a partner for many years.  We all love her for the elegant dresses, tailored silhouettes and understanding of beauty she embodies.  She is, after all, a beautiful woman, so she understands the role of beauty in the total look.  This collection was inspired by the great (late) fashion photographer, […]

Sally LaPointe – dreamy and dramatically beautiful…

The smoke flowed out from under a huge metallic, medieval door as the guards opened the gateway for the parade of futuristic, glamazon-tall, alien-sleek models in liquid, translucent coats, flowing but structured pants and armor-like tops.  The only thing missing was flying monkeys to complete the fantasy.  The show was like a dream (what a […]

Catherine Malandrino – Good karma!

Go figure – the week has been sunny, clear and gorgeous here in NYC…easy to get around, good hair days for sure…then, THE day two important shows plan outdoor presentations…it RAINS!!! The first was Malandrino, where I made it to the Avery Fisher Hall at Lincoln Center and went backstage.  Once again, Catherine Malandrino produced […]

Behnaz Sarafpour- easy, breezy, fresh and pretty!

Easy, breezy, fresh and pretty…this sophisticated sportswear collection by Behnaz Sarafpour showed confidence in simple and beautiful designs.  Unfortunately rained-out from a garden presentation, there was still something really special about the distant calls of birds from outside in the lavish sweeping staircase in the Desmond Tutu Building foyer.

Altuzarra – New and Fresh!

Joseph Altuzarra is a designer to watch.  New and fresh.  The clothes were highly structured, futuristic, edgy and beautifully fitted.  Styling was unexpected and strong.  This girl is urban and ahead of the pack.  Blown back…almost dreadlocked hair, with a swipe of bright paint, on the side of the head…like a mark of tribal-belonging.

Diego Binetti – PURE Magic!

There’s something really regal about trust when it comes to art…when a designer trusts a partner and empowers creativity, there’s a magic that happens.  Today was PURE magic.  When I met with Diego a few weeks ago, he had many of his gorgeous pieces made and ready.  He’s a planner, a thinker, a doer.  He’s […]

Jason Wu – “Miss Wu”!

Colors so good, you need them all year round, despite the season or trend.  Jason’s vision for our first ever designer collaboration Color collection was to create a modern palette of wearable ‘neutrals’. Colors you wear and love…starting with his signature color, ‘Miss Wu’!  Masculine and feminine in a single swipe of the polish brush, […]

Ruffian – French Foreign Legion!

Ruffian’s French Foreign Legion-inspired collection honored the strong female leaders, who travelled the globe with confidence and conviction.  Clothes were structured with military precision in shades of khaki, olive, ivory, white and navy, with sparks of royal blue and primary red.  Leopard accents revealed the scope of their mission.

Victor de Souza – Aquatic Dreams…

Victor de Souza brought to life an aquatic dream of color, effect and exotic sea life found near a coral reef.   In the deepest parts of the water, colors darken into shades of watery greys and stony browns with shots of hot pink, bright blue, red appearing…flashes of magical colors.  As always with Victor, silhouettes […]
